Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Elizabeth, the daughter of George VI and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, was born April 21 1926 at 17 Bruton Street, London.
She married Philip, son of Andrew, Prince of Greece and Denmark, November 20 1947 in Westminster Abbey.

Princess Elizabeth was educated privately and spent much of the World War II at Windsor. She joined the motor transport section of the Auxiliary Territorials. On November 20th, 1947, she married Philip, Prince of Greece.

Prince Philip grew up under the guardianship of his maternal uncles, the 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven and Lord Louis Mountbatten. He served as Lieutenant in Royal Navy and in 1947 he was created Duke of Edinburgh.

On February 6th 1952 Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh were on a tour of Kenya when they heard that King George VI had died. Elizabeth was crowned on June 2nd the following year in Westminster Abbey. Since then, Elizabeth II has maintained an arduous programme of official engagements and tours to all corners of the World on behalf of the British people.
